Everything and Nothing

Where do you draw the line around yourself that separates “you” from what ever else is “not you”? Is it just outside your skin? Does your body identify you and everything else is the world “out there”? Or do you include an aura of light or energy around your body as inclusive of the “you” that you are familiar with?
We suggest that All That Is—all of what you experience and perceive--is you—and you are One Life. Anything that would not be you is only a temporary and arbitrary notion of “other” dependent on the temporary and arbitrary notion of “you” as an entity. If “you” are One Life, not a thing, a person, a self, or anything you can name, then there is no “other” existing in any way shape or form that is not you.
In a flash of knowing that you are One Life, a kind of everything and nothing simultaneously, there arises great liberation from the burden of separation. We call the maintenance of separation a burden because it is truly where a lot of your energy is consumed. You spend a lot of your conscious and unconscious resources trying to identify what is you and what is not you in order to feel functional in a world identified as a world of separate entities. Even though you may feel that indeed, it is all One Life Awareness, you may also believe that living a relative life requires you and everyone else to stay within normal boundaries, to claim self to be an individual and other selves to be other individuals.

Yes, this is the conventional thinking. You are you and everyone else is whoever they are, and that is the world as you experience it. We would ask you to take a moment to dive a little deeper. What are the perceived benefits of seeing yourself as a unique individual? Does it make you feel separate and alone? Or does uniqueness make you feel special? Does it hinder your capacity to connect with others or does it facilitate your sense of connection? Every answer is correct, as you feel many different things at different times and the whole gamut of emotions is yours to explore in a lifetime, and we would say, that is the main drive in a lifetime, to experience as much as possible. We would also say that having One Life Awareness does not affect the nature of your experience. You will feel everything and nothing at various times and in various ways whether you are grounded in One Life Awareness, or whether you are attached to conventional thinking.
Ultimately, your life is simply your life and because it is all that you can ever know or experience, it is everything—All That Is. But you, as One Life, everything, can therefore have no real substance—your body is not everything, your mind is not everything, you could never identify everything that is your life, One Life, and draw a line around each thing and end up with everything. There would always be something you missed. At some point in this discovery, you may find that everything is really nothing at all. Your unique and individual self is really no self, your life is just life—One Life—and since no thing actually exists with separateness, nothing and everything, which are just ways that you try to enumerate whether there is anything of substance, become meaningless terms. To put it even more simply, you cannot count all things and come up with everything. There is also no way to look at life and find nothing. Everything and nothing are illusion, an imaginary idea with no substance.
You may at first have just an intuitive understanding, an ability to just “get” that everything is all that you are, which is nothing simultaneously. You may have some experience some time when you sense that you are everything with nothing, a self and a non-self in the same experience. Then you may have a realization, when all confusion collapses, and you have clarity that you are everything and nothing in all ways at all times.
Knowing you are everything and nothing is knowing who you really are. Seeing the absolute nature of things as truly without substance, recognizing the emptiness of a self that is nothing, discovering how to disengage with a sense of self that is described by boundaries which are arbitrary and momentary, you become liberated from a lifetime of elaborating on separation. Forget about finding higher selves and lower selves, and spiritual selves and physical selves, and all those selves that you can label and identify. “You” will become lost in the multitudes of pieces and parts of everything.
Forget about describing yourself to yourself and others, let go of trying to be you. Being you is being everything and nothing in all ways and at all times. It is effortless and simple. The complexity of trying to be somebody is what makes life difficult. Be nobody, be everybody, be it all and be nothing. Then you are One Life. Without self, without thing-ness, you are compassion, you are love, you are who you really are--everything and nothing without boundaries or definition. You are One Life, as One Life is you.
